Below is the text of the Province of British Columbia's response to the M.E. Society of B.C.'s request that 12 May, 1995 be proclaimed M.E. Awareness Day. Canada Province of British Columbia A Proclamation ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith To all to whom these presents shall come -- Greeting WHEREAS Myalgic Encephalomyelitis is a debilitating disease which affects men, women and children, and WHEREAS this disease prevents most persons from working, studying or otherwise living a normal and functional life, and WHEREAS this disease is extremely difficult to diagnose and there is no known cure, and WHEREAS there is no organized research into Myalgic Encephalomyelitis taking place in British Columbia at this time, and WHEREAS development of a high level of public awareness, including physician awareness, concerning this disease is important no only for successful diagnosis, but also for fund raising in aid of research, patient services and education, and WHEREAS the Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Society of British Columbia together with M. E. support groups wish to stimulate the awareness of the public and of practising professionals, and to provide information on M.E., and WHEREAS Our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, has been pleased to direct by Order in Council in that behalf that a Proclamation be issued designating May 12, 1995 as "M.E. Awareness Day" in the Province of British Columbia; NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that Sunday, May 12, 1995, shall be known as "M.E.
